About Me
Dr. Scott Terry
Ed.D. (Doctor of Education)
Registered Psychologist (Australia)
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (USA)
Founder of Restarting Relationships | Clinical Author | Supervisor of Supervisors
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been passionate about understanding how we grow, heal, and reconnect—especially during life’s most difficult transitions. My work spans decades across continents, but the heart of it remains the same: helping people return to themselves and their relationships with more clarity, presence, and coherence.
I’ve served as a clinical director, supervisor-of-supervisors, educator, retreat facilitator, and founder of one of the largest private mental health networks in the USA. I now bring that breadth of experience into Restarting Relationships, where we offer deeply personalised, integrative care through therapy, retreats, consultation, and clinical mentorship—both in Australia and globally.
Alongside my clinical work, I am co-authoring a comprehensive systems-based model for transformation (The Integrative Framework for Change) that brings together psychology, education, trauma theory, and developmental systems in a way that helps real people make meaningful change.
Whether you’re seeking intensive couples work, recovering from trauma, facing a personal or professional crossroads, or needing advanced supervision, I offer a grounded, compassionate, and practical approach to help you move forward.
🌱 Why People Come to Therapy—and How I Can Help
Here are just some of the reasons people reach out to me—and how we work together:
1. Stress, Anxiety, and Overwhelm
When daily life feels unmanageable or you’re constantly on edge, therapy provides a place to slow down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and build tools that work. Together, we reconnect you to a steadier centre.
2. Depression, Disconnection, and Loss of Motivation
If you’re feeling stuck, numb, or like you’ve lost your spark, we work to understand the root causes—and help you reconnect with meaning, energy, and self-trust.
3. Relationship Conflict or Disconnection
Couples often come in crisis. Others come when something feels “off” but they’re not sure why. I guide partners through deep reconnection—whether in regular sessions or immersive retreats.
4. Major Life Transitions or Identity Shifts
Whether it’s a career change, a separation, parenting shifts, or midlife questions, I help you make sense of where you’ve been—and chart a new path forward that feels aligned and authentic.
5. Trauma Recovery and Healing The Nervous System
Many clients have experienced complex trauma, early adversity, or betrayal. My trauma-informed approach offers structured, safe healing—often integrating somatic, relational, and systemic insights.
6. Burnout and Emotional Exhaustion
When you’ve been holding everything together too long, therapy becomes a place to exhale. We gently unwind the patterns behind burnout and build sustainable ways of caring for yourself.
7. Personal Growth, Clarity and Self-Development
Therapy isn’t just about symptoms—it’s also about growth. Many clients come to better understand themselves, deepen emotional intelligence, or navigate giftedness, identity, or values realignment.
8. Self-Esteem, Shame and Inner Critic Work
If you feel “not enough,” therapy becomes a space where we explore that story—and help rewrite it. I support clients in building a more compassionate relationship with themselves.
9. Loneliness, Disconnection, or Isolation
You don’t have to go through this alone. Therapy offers a relational mirror—and a bridge back into connection with others, the world, and yourself.
10. Feeling “Stuck” Despite All the Work You’ve Already Done
Many of my clients are highly insightful, well-read, even in the helping professions themselves. But they still feel stuck. That’s where depth-oriented, systems-based work can create real movement.
